Hello, and welcome to the blog of the What’s Next in Social Sciences podcast!

We’re sure you’ve all heard of networking. It’s such an overused term that it has almost lost its significance. But we may be at the danger of ignoring a very important skill because we’ve heard it too much and think we know about it. But let’s take a moment here and ask ourselves, do we really know what’s networking and how to do it? Perhaps we, unfortunately, think that it’s not that important or can be done without. Either way, this episode is for all of us — to stop and take a close look at networking, the essential skill that we all need.

Joining us on this episode is Mohammed Sinan Siyech, a Senior Analyst at the International Centre for Political Violence & Terrorism Research (ICPVTR) of the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. He is also a PhD Candidate at the Islamic and Middle East Studies Department at the School of Language, Literature and Culture in Edinburgh University.

He talks about the importance of networking in academia and outside, how to approach networking and what not to do.

Do listen and share! And reach out to Archana and me (Nirupama) on our LinkedIn in case of any queries or if you just wanna connect.

Also, it would be great if you could take a minute to share your expectations and what you’d like to cover in future episodes on this link.

Additional Resources

In today’s additional resources, we have the two books Sinan recommends in the episode, a good video on how to network on LinkedIn, and a short helpful video on how to network by thinking like introverts.
