Hello, and welcome to the blog of the What’s Next in Social Sciences podcast! We’re a monthly podcast now, so look forward to one listening to and sharing one episode a month. More time for us to put together something that’s more helpful to you.

If you have listened to our first episode or read the first blog, you’d know that Archana and I (Nirupama) started this podcast after a discussion we had on LinkedIn about whether or not to do a PhD. After half a year and 8 podcast episodes, we’re revisiting that question. Confused about the topic ourselves, we seek the help of a very helpful and inspirational Ritika Arora who has done an MPhil and is now a PhD candidate at the London School of Economics.

Whether you’re like Archana and are almost convinced that you want to do a PhD to advance in your career in research, or you’re like me and have PhD in a remote corner of your mind (showing up only on the days you’re obsessing reading about one of your interest areas) this episode will help you relate, and to better understand where you stand.

This is not an easy question to find an answer to. So, we will revisit this several times in our PhD series of episodes which is starting with this episode. Meanwhile, we’ll continue the ‘Intro to’ series and make episodes on working in the development sector, etc.

In additional resources, we have these very helpful articles that will help you dwell on this question further and with more clarity:
